ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30), and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. Morgan and her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played many sports as a child, however, she only began playing soccer when she was 14 years old. She joined the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to develop her soccer skills while at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was selected as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). In addition, she was a part of the regional and state divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scoring player from the start of her first season. Morgan was instrumental in bringing the team into the NCAA Tournament all four years and into second rounds twice. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. When she graduated before the end of the year in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in the history of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was able to maintain soccer careers at the national and college levels throughout her time at Berkeley. During her first year on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from participating in the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. In Mexico Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan played in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team took home an Olympic gold medal. She also scored her first international goal at the CONCACAF Women's United 20 Championship in Mexico. One of those goals was a win against Italy which secured the U.S. team the final place at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team, and he was the captain of the U.S. team to victory over France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
