Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland was the daughter of actors Melissa D. Canaday (New York City) and Edward James Hyland (New York City). At the age 4 she entered the business with voice overs and commercial work. The first film she made was Private Parts (1997). Then she moved to The Object of My Affection (1998) and spent time on Another World (1964) as "Rain Wolfe" as a child found in the park and fostered by Josie and Gary. Sarah was to work with Amy Carlson ("Josie") several times more: Falcone (2000). Law & Order (1990). Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005). Sarah was cast in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Audrey Hepburn Story(2000) as one of the young Audrey Hepburns. The following year, she was a part in ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney: Annie (1999), with Audra McDonald, Victor Garber, Kristin Chernoweth, Joe Gould's Secret ((2000) and Falcone ((2000)). Sarah studied voice, tap, jazz and hip-hop along with film and television work. Sarah, a New Yorker, was also an invited performer for her tap and theatre dance classes at "Reel to Real" Lincoln Center. After being taught at home by her mother, she attended a public school until second grade. In the 6th grade she was accepted into PPAS (Professional Performing Arts School) in which she remained until her graduation in 2008. When Sarah was 18 then she moved to Los Angeles, CA and within two weeks was flying with a pilot named "My American Family". The pilot's name was later changed to Modern Family (2009, after Sarah was chosen). Sarah is currently "Haley Dunphy", an the oldest of the Dunphy children. Modern Family (2009) won many awards, including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
