Penelope Cruz Sanchez
Penelope Cruz Sanchez is the daughter of
Eduardo Cruz, a Madrid hairdresser, and Encarna Sanchez, a hairdresser from
Madrid. As a child and a devoted performer and would re-enact commercials on TV
for the entertainment of her parents. However, she chose to dedicate her time
to dance. After nine years of ballet training in Spain's National Conservatory
she was able to further her education under the guidance of a number of famous
dancers. She realized her passion at the age 15 when she beat more than 300 contestants
in an audition for an agency that represented talent. The agency offered her
roles on Spanish TV and music videos. This contract brought her many roles, and
opened the doors to a career on the world of big screens. Cruz was first seen
in a movie in The Greek Labyrinth (1993). (The Greek Labyrinth). Following that
she appeared in a brief scene in Framed (1992) by Timothy Dalton. The third
film she starred in was an Oscar-winning film, Belle Epoque (1992), where she
played one of four sisters who compete for the love of a handsome deserter from
the army. The film also garnered many Goyas which is the Spanish equivalent to
the Academy Awards. She continued to add films to her portfolio, growing by
three or four per year. Soon Cruz was the most sought-after actress in Spanish
cinema. Live Flesh (1997) (Live Flesh) offered her the chance to work with
renowned Spanish director Pedro Almodovar (who would later be her ticket to
international fame), and the same year she was the lead actress in the thriller/drama/mystery/sci-fi
film Open Your Eyes (1997), a huge hit in Spain that earned eight Goyas (though
none for Cruz). It all changed in 1998 when her movie-industry comedy La Nina
De Tus Ojos (1998) received her the title of Best Actress Goya. Cruz made several
more trips into English-language films, but All About My Mother (1999) was her
first major international hit. She played a non-challenging yet well-meaning
nun. Cruz became in high demand across the Atlantic and the west coast, since
the film won numerous awards and awards. Woman on Top (2000) was her next major
film. It was an American comedy about a chef who has extraordinary culinary
